On 29th of November 2017, according to Igor Fomin, the Chairman of the Expert Council for Tourism under the FF Social Policy Committee of the Council of Federation, the Federation Council unanimously approved the Federal Law "On Amending Economic Development of the Kaliningrad Region".
As follows from the approved bill draft, for the Kaliningrad region will be established the simplified E-Visa service. The single-entry business, tourist and humanitarian visas for the duration up to 30 days with the approved stay in the country up to 8 days, will be issued from now on electronically. The issue of such Visas will take several days and will be free of charge, and would not require consular fee payment.
The pilot launch of the electronic system in the Free Port of Vladivostok region from 1st of August showed that the issue of such Visas is on demand among a large number of foreign visitors. It was stated that Council of Russian Federation is willing to implement the Electronic Visa Services for other regions as well. The list of the countries, for whom such services would be available in Kaliningrad region is still being negotiated. There is a possibility that European countries will also be included in this list.
